Dear WSCF Senior Friends,
Warmest greetings in the name of Jesus Christ our saviour!
It is my pleasure to invite you to the 37th General Assembly (GA) of the World Student Christian Federation (WSCF) which will take place in Berlin from June 4 to 11, 2020.
The General Assembly is the most representative and highest decision-making body of the World Student Christian Federation. General Assemblies or General Committees of WSCF have taken place since the federation's foundation meeting in 1895. Next year, its 37thsession will convene 108 member movements from 94 countries, senior friends, partners and guests. The GA is expected to gather 180 delegates at the Zwinglikirche in Berlin Germany with the theme, Rejoice in Hope” (Romans 12:12), and a sub-theme “Young People, Journeying Together Towards Justice and Peace.”
The theme speaks of WSCF identity and prayer. Romans 12:12 remind us that unity in Christ Jesus is our hope in times of challenges and difficulties. We are called to be one in the building of the Kingdom. We are called to prophesize and proclaim hope in the coming of the Kingdom. As a federation of young people, WSCF offers the message of hope in the context of the suffering of the world today. Hope that is built on the foundation in our work for justice, equality and peace. Hope informed by our understanding social injustice, of the root-causes of poverty, fragmentation, disunity, violence and war. Hope that is truly based on actions resisting Empire, of speaking truth to power and making them accountable to people and mother Earth.
The GA gathers at a critical juncture in the life of the Federation at it goes through renewal and transformation. The 35thGeneral Assembly in Bogota 2015 recognized the need to change if WSCF is to adapt to changing times, new challenges and continue its prophetic mission in the world. This coming assembly will evaluate efforts and strategies implemented to stabilize and sustain the life of the Federation. As partners, we value your accompaniment, inputs and insights as we bring the federation into the next chapter in our ecumenical journey.
The General Assembly is a space to celebrate 125 years of our common and our diverse life of witness and mission to the worldwide community. We will celebrate our contribution to the building of the Kingdom of God, and affirm our on-going task of working for justice, equality and peace in the world. Please honour us with your presence by joining us in this assembly.
At the Assembly, WSCF senior friends will gather together in a separate but simultaneous event called Senior Friends Gathering (SFG). It will be a time to reflect, share stories and memories, find ways to support and guide the current generation of SCMs as they lead and usher the federation forward. We will send you further details on this gathering.
Attached with this letter of invitation [ ENG FRA SPA] is the GA Registration Form requesting information that will help us prepare for the forthcoming assembly. We kindly request if you can return the Form on or before January 30, 2020 (extended from November 30, 2019).
Please join us in this momentous event. We look forward to your presence, your prayers and support for the success of this assembly.
