Affirming WSCF Legacy

On December 13, we embarked on an inspiring and celebratory journey as we hosted the Senior Friend Virtual Christmas Event. This gathering highlighted the historical identity of WSCF, affirming the legacy of ecumenical leadership in today's pursuit of justice. The three focal points of the event were legacy, impact, and relevance.

Legacy: During the event, Salters Sterling from Ireland, Betsy Anderson from Canada, and Prof. Bungaran from Indonesia, all esteemed Senior Friends of the WSCF, shared captivating stories and anecdotes that delved into WSCF's identity and the legacy of ecumenical leadership.

Impact:The event showcased impactful stories from SCMers, including Jorge González from Cuba, Jesufifunmi Emiola from Nigeria, and Haya Bannoura from Palestine. These narratives illuminated the programmatic impact of the WSCF in the lives of students globally, highlighting ongoing themes under programs such as IDD, Ecumenical Leadership, and Peacebuilding.

Relevance: The WSCF Program Work Plan was presented during the event, , Marcelo Leites, the WSCF General Secretary, introduced the overall plan and the Program Coordinators who will oversee the 2023-2026 plan, presented the work plan of each program. These include Climate and Economic Justice, Peacebuilding, Democracy, Human Rights and Fundamentalisms, Identity Diversity and Dialogue, and Ecumenical Leadership.

Additionally, a solidarity silent art auction featuring the exceptional work of talented SCM artists was part of the event. Finally, a roadmap of activities planned for Senior Friends in 2024 was also shared.

We are grateful for your contributions to the success of this event and for affirming the rich legacy of WSCF. Long live the WSCF!

Marcelo Leites
