SCM Nigeria 32nd Biennial Conference
In the name of the Lord, we joyfully announce the triumphant conclusion of the 32nd Biennial Conference of the Student Christian Movement of Nigeria, themed “RAISING SONS OF ISSACHAR” (1 Chronicles 12:32). This four-day spiritual gathering took place from August 31st to September 3rd, 2023 at the esteemed John R. Mott Center in Port Harcourt and we were profoundly blessed by divine intervention throughout.
Our assembly was graced by God's Generals, including Arch. Bishop I.C.O Kattey, Evangelist Lawrence Oyor, Dr. Mrs. Briggs, Prof. Kontein, and other esteemed speakers. The conference encompassed word and music ministry, salvation, baptism in the Holy Spirit, seminars, workshops, life-changing testimonies, Discovery Bible Study (DBS), goodwill messages, special presentations, a variety afternoon, the launch of the Daily Scriptural Reading (DSR), and heartfelt prayers.
Comprising six sessions and featuring representation from eighteen sectors: Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Benue, Cross-River, Delta, Enugu-Ebonyi, Ekiti, Enugu, Imo, Kaduna, Kogi, Lagos, Oyo/Osun, Rivers, Taraba and FCT (Abuja) we witnessed the enthusiastic presence of approximately 454 attendees on-site, alongside a significant number participating online. Of these, 244 were male, and 210 were female, including Senior friends, All tertiary institution conference (ATIC) branches, Christian movement fellowship (CMF) branches, as well as secondary and primary schools.
The conference commenced with a warm welcome address, followed by fervent prayers for our movement. Arch. Bishop I.C.O Kattey's powerful message led around 50 individuals to Christ, and Evangelist Lawrence Oyor delivered enlightening messages on “The Sons of Issachar” (1 Chronicles 12:32) and “Energy (Power)” (Acts 6:1). The choir graced us with melodious music, setting a spiritual tone for the gathering.
Friday morning brought two impactful messages from Evang. Lawrence Oyor and Arch. Bishop I.C.O Kattey, addressing “The Power to Prosper” (Deuteronomy 8:18) and “The Sons of Issachar,” respectively. The day continued with intensive prayers, special music ministry, and heartwarming testimonies, including a miraculous rescue from a life-threatening accident. Noon ushered in goodwill messages from esteemed individuals, launching the Daily Scriptural Reading (DSR), and the ceremonial cutting of the 32nd biennial conference cake. Friday evening introduced seminars on healthy living and entrepreneurship, an SCM family meeting, and the first council meeting of the conference, where the movement's two-year report was presented.
Saturday was marked by Discovery Bible Study, a thought-provoking message by Dr. Mrs. Briggs, and dedicated prayer sessions. Topics like responsible citizenship, elder honors, and workshops for stress management, relationships, politics, governance, and career development were also featured. The evening session offered special presentations and a powerful message on “Ministry in the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:2, 19:2-3) by Prof Kontein Trinya, resulting in over 50 individuals, especially the youth, receiving the Holy Spirit with the gift of tongues. Finally, the conference culminated in the second council meeting of the SCM, where the next biennial conference host was chosen as the Lagos sector, and new leaders for the SCM Nigeria were elected.
