WSCF GLOBAL PROGRAMMES
Having witnessed the sheer destruction and unbearable loss of innocent civilian lives in Rafah, the World Student Christian Federation (WSCF) issues the following public statement calling for urgent actions to stop armed violence against Palestinian civilians and to ensure that the ICJ ruling on stopping the Rafah offensive is implemented.
Despite the International Court of Justice’s ruling on 24 May that characterised the humanitarian situation in Gaza as disastrous and warned that the Rafah offensive would bring about the “physical destruction” of the Palestinians – heavy attacks on displacement camps near Rafah continued and resulted in the death of 45 people – primarily women and children.
VISION
We envision a world where justice, compassion, and the principles of liberation permeate every aspect of society and the church; and where celebrating the diversity of identities and cultural traditions fosters unity, understanding and cooperation, and promotes the pursuit of peace for all. We envision a global movement of Christian students who are empowered by faith and radical love to take on the task of challenging systemic injustices, upholding the voices of marginalised communities, and building bridges of solidarity and equity across borders.
MISSION
We empower Christian students to promote justice and peace in the world, speak truth to power, proclaim a theology of inclusion and liberation, and stand in solidarity with marginalised communities. We initiate and engage in transformative actions, promote liberating education, and encourage cooperation among students of diverse identities and cultural background through interconnection, dialogue and cultivation of shared values. We strive to help build a global coalition of student movements that advocates and works towards a just and equitable society.
Webinar to commemorate International Women's Day
The World Student Christian Federation, in collaboration with the Student Christian Movement of Indonesia (GMKI), hosted a landmark webinar to commemorate International Women's Day, underlining the theme “Leading with Inclusion: Empowering Women Leaders at the Forefront.”
The objective of this global dialogue was to discuss the barriers women face in leadership and strategies to overcome them, particularly within patriarchal societies. It emphasized the critical need for supportive networks to foster gender inclusivity. The event was attended by more than 70 participants from over 5 countries.
A Capacity Building Workshop on Financial Management was held on September 14 as part of the broader capacity-building initiatives within the WSCF's political and executive bodies. The training was guided by Triayu Kodrat, Finance Officer of Kerk in Actie, a partner of the WSCF, Jean-Luc De La Soujeole, outgoing Finance Officer of the WSCF, and Marcelo Leites, WSCF General Secretary.
The World Student Christian Federation (WSCF), the World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC), and Kairos Palestine hosted a webinar on December 5, 2023, titled “Witness from Palestine: Reclaiming Humanity Amidst Double Standards and Dehumanization.”
On December 13, we embarked on an inspiring and celebratory journey as we hosted the Senior Friend Virtual Christmas Event. This gathering highlighted the historical identity of WSCF, affirming the legacy of ecumenical leadership in today's pursuit of justice. The three focal points of the event were legacy, impact, and relevance.
Legacy: During the event, Salters Sterling from Ireland, Betsy Anderson from Canada, and Prof. Bungaran from Indonesia, all esteemed Senior Friends of the WSCF, shared captivating stories and anecdotes that delved into WSCF's identity and the legacy of ecumenical leadership.
